Enjoy a Newspaper History of Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers FC was formed as St. Luke’s FC in 1877. The team emerged at St. Luke’s School in Blakenhall and they later merged with the Wanderers Cricket and Football Club. Wolves became founder members of the Football League in 1888 and won two FA Cups by the First World War. Stan Cullis took over as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1948 and he led the team to great success. Wolves won the FA Cup in 1949 and 1960, and the side won three First Division titles during the 1960s. Wolverhampton Wanderers took part in a succession of European floodlit friendlies in the 1950s. The club’s victory over the highly rated Honved was a particularly famous occasion, which contributed to the formation of the European Cup. Wolves enjoyed a great European campaign in 1972, reaching the UEFA Cup final. The club lost on this occasion, but Wolves won the League Cup twice during the next ten years.
