Enjoy a Newspaper History of the Lilywhites

Preston North End FC was a founder member of the Football League in 1888. The Lilywhites won the first ever league title without losing a match. No other team finished a top flight season unbeaten until Arsenal repeated this feat in 2004. In addition to winning the inaugural league championship in 1889, Preston won the FA Cup. The Lilywhites therefore became the first club to win the prestigious League-FA Cup ‘double’. Preston defended their league title in 1890 and finished as runners-up in the following three seasons. The Lilywhites were a real force in the game during the early years, but other teams improved and Preston was sadly relegated in 1901. The club has since won titles in each of the other three divisions. The Lilywhites have also reached further FA Cup finals, winning the trophy for the second time in 1964.
