Personalised Newcastle United Football Books
Enjoy a Newspaper History of the Magpies
Newcastle United FC was founded when two Newcastle football clubs merged in 1892. The Magpies enjoyed much success at the beginning of the twentieth century, winning the First Division title in 1905, 1907 and 1909. Newcastle United also won three FA Cups by the time the league took a break for the Second World War. The club won the competition on three further occasions in the 1950s. Newcastle qualified for European competition in the late 1960s and won the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1968, beating Ujpest Dozsa 6-2 on aggregate. Despite reaching League Cup finals in the 1970s, the Magpie’s form began to decline. By 1992, Newcastle United was struggling at the bottom of Division Two. Kevin Keegan was appointed manager and he turned the team’s fortunes around. King Kev’s side were known as “The Entertainers" due to their attacking brand of football. Fortunately, the Magpies were successful as well as attractive to watch. Newcastle United finished in second place in the First Division in 1996 and 1997. The club also qualified for Europe and won the Intertoto Cup in 2006.
