Enjoy a Newspaper History of the Foxes

Leicester City FC was founded as Leicester Fosse in 1884. The club was elected into the Football League in 1894 and renamed Leicester City in 1919. The Foxes have won several Second Division titles over the years and they finished as runners-up of the First Division in 1929. They missed out on the title by just one point to Sheffield Wednesday. Leicester won the League Cup in 1964, which was their first major trophy. The Foxes had previously come close to winning the FA Cup, reaching four finals in total between 1949 and 1969. Leicester City endured two further narrow defeats at Wembley Stadium in the early 1990s, this time in the play-off finals. After coming close to promotion in 1992 and 1993, the Foxes finally made it to the Premiership in 1994. Martin O’Neill took over as manager one year later. He led the club to two League Cup trophies, four consecutive top ten finishes in the league and qualification for UEFA Cup competition. This was the most successful era at Leicester City to date.
