Enjoy a Newspaper History of the Terriers

Huddersfield Town FC was founded in 1908. Huddersfield had tried to form a football team in previous years, but the popularity of rugby in the town had made this difficult. The club gradually became established alongside the rugby side, but financial crisis threatened to destroy the Terriers. There was a risk of merger with rivals Leeds United in 1919, but Huddersfield Town survived and they soon stormed to the top of the football league. The club won three consecutive First Division titles between 1924 and 1926 and finished as runners-up in the following two seasons. The Terriers have also enjoyed cup success. Huddersfield won the FA Cup in 1922 and they appeared in further finals in later years.

Huddersfield Town Football Book Coverage

This Huddersfield Town Football Book opens with the amazing victories of the 1920s. The Gift Books include reports on the Terriers’ defeat of Nottingham Forest in 1920, to gain promotion to Division One, and victory against Preston North End in the 1922 FA Cup final. Another highlight of the Huddersfield Book is the newspaper coverage on the hat-trick of Division One Championships in 1924, 1925 and 1926.

Read about the famous FA Cup final versus Arsenal in 1930, where a German Zeppelin was seen flying over Wembley Stadium. You can also relive the tension of the 1932 FA Cup sixth-round clash with the Gunners, which was played in front of a record home crowd of 67,008 people. A variety of high scoring Huddersfield wins are incorporated in this unique Gift Book, including the 6-1 hammering of Chelsea in 1933, the 8-2 massacre of Everton in 1953, the 5-1 away win over West Ham in 1960 and many more. You will find additional articles on the record £48,000 transfer of Denis Law to Manchester City in 1960 and the Terriers’ Second Division title win in 1970, which guaranteed the club’s return to top flight football after a fourteen season absence.

Newspaper coverage continues right up to the end of last season. This unique insight into Huddersfield Town’s history makes these books truly memorable gifts and a great addition for a collector of Huddersfield memorabilia.
