Personalised Crystal Palace Football Books
Enjoy a Newspaper History of the Eagles
Crystal Palace FC was founded in 1905 by workers of The Crystal Palace; a magnificent building on Sydenham Hill that housed the Great Exhibition. The club rose to fame in 1907 when they beat defending champions Newcastle United on the way to the FA Cup quarter-final. The Eagles were elected into the Football League in 1920 and Palace won the Third Division in their first official season. The club was promoted to the top flight for the first time in 1969 and they re-entered the First Division in 1989. Crystal Palace finished in third place two years later – the club’s highest ever placing in the league. The Eagles reached the semi-finals of both domestic cups in 1995.
