Enjoy a Newspaper History of the Blues

Birmingham City FC, originally named "Small Heath Alliance", formed in 1875 and the club turned professional ten years later. The Blues became a founder member of the Second Division in 1892 and won the inaugural championship. Birmingham won the title for a second time in 1921 and went on to enjoy a consistent spell in the top flight. The Blues were particularly successful in the 1950s and early 1960s, finishing in sixth place in the 1956 First Division campaign. The club also reached the FA Cup final in 1956, before getting through to the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final in both 1961 and 1962. In 1963, Birmingham finally won their first major trophy, beating bitter rivals Aston Villa in the League Cup final. The Blues reached the Premiership for the first time in 2002 following a period outside the top flight.
