Many of English football’s biggest names were surprised and others looked near to tears when recent (Team) signing (Male First Name) (Male Surname) walked off with football’s coveted Player of the Year award last night.

Claiming English football’s most cherished award, the (Age)-year old star held up this award and said simply, “This is brilliant – thanks!”

The (Team) player was rewarded by the Professional Football Association for a glittering run of form all season, which left team insiders dazzled, and justified the decision by (Manager’s Surname) to snap up the player, whisking him from obscurity and thrusting him into the football limelight. His name now joins an elite list including such stars as Ronaldo, Rooney, Henry and van Nistelrooy.

“I am really flattered to be here”, said (Male Surname). “I’ve been nominated by a lot of people who have played against me, and to be honest I’m in shock”, he declared.

But Gerrard regained his composure and he was later seen with his arm around the winner, and the two remained in animated conversation for much of the evening.
