Swansea City Personalised Football Diary
Superb Diary Gifts for Fans of Swansea City!
Children had been playing football at Vetch Field for many years before it was finally sold to the Swansea League. In 1912, Swansea Town FC formed as a professional club and took up residency of the ground. The club became known as Swansea City FC in 1971, when Swansea was finally granted city status.
The Swans enjoyed one of their most successful periods during the 1980s. John Toshack took over as player-manager and led Swansea City to sixth place in the First Division, via three league promotions. Although the club would rapidly decline, the emergence of Roberto Martinez as captain in 2003 would stabilise the Swans and he helped guide Swansea City to League One from the lower division. In 2007, Martinez came back to the club as manager. Although inexperienced in this position, he masterminded promotion to the Championship in his first season in charge.
Our Personalised Swansea City Diaries look back at some of the best games in the club’s history with twelve reproduced match reports from our newspaper archives. Starting from the month of your choice, this is a great gift idea for any fan of the Swans.
Diary
These Personalised Swansea City Diaries begin when the club was still known as Swansea Town. In 1954, the club thrashed Port Vale 7-1 at home, and in 1961, Swansea beat Preston North End 2-1 in the FA Cup fourth round. The Swans had further FA Cup success in 1964 and another highlight of this season was the thrilling 1-2 victory against Liverpool FC at Anfield.
Our A5 Diary moves on to the 1970s, beginning with the 1-3 win over Spurs in the 1978 League Cup Campaign. The club was now known as Swansea City and John Toshack had just begun his role as player-manager. In 1981, Swansea City was back in the First Division and performing well. A 5-1 victory against Leeds United and a 2-3 defeat of Ipswich Town are just two examples of the fantastic performances that the Swans had started to produce. Sandwiched in between these league wins was a 2-0 shock triumph against Arsenal FC in the League Cup second round. All three matches from the incredible 1981/1982 season are included in our Swansea City Diary Gift.
Other highlights in this popular Personalised Diary include newspaper coverage on the Autoglass trophy win of 1994 and the famous 1-1 draw against Rotherham in 2000, which guaranteed the Swans the Division Three title. We also incorporate the promotion-clinching game against Gillingham in 2008. It was the first time that Swansea City had reached Championship level for twenty-four years by playing stylish, attacking football.
