Sheffield United Personalised Football Diary
Brilliant Diary Gifts for Fans of the Blades!
Since forming in 1889, Sheffield United FC has won the First Division title and numerous FA Cups. The club is well known for its vocal support and fans of the Blades have a variety of famous chants. “The Greasy Chip Butty Song" promotes the many delights of Sheffield, such as nightlife, beer and of course the ‘chip butty‘. It has become Sheffield United’s anthem and gets sung before each half of every game and sometimes afterwards, depending upon how well the Blades have performed. Another famous chant is “Are you Wednesday in disguise?" This is aired whenever a visiting team is playing badly and is of course in reference to local rivals, Sheffield Wednesday FC. The Sheffield derby - also called the Steel City derby - is just one of the rivalries of the club. Other Sheffield United foes include Leeds United, Barnsley, Rotherham, Nottingham Forest and more recently, Reading FC.
Our Personalised Sheffield United Diaries feature twelve reproduced match reports from our newspaper archives on some of the best games the Blades have played over the past century. Starting from the month of your choice, these A5 Diaries are a terrific gift idea for any fan of the club.
Diary Highlights
These Personalised Sheffield United Diaries incorporate newspaper articles on an exciting range of matches from the league and domestic cups. We also include a special feature on the appointment of Dave Bassett as United’s manager. Bassett would go on to elevate the Blades from the Third Division to the Premier League within a period of three years.
The A5 Diary covers impressive league victories against Liverpool, Arsenal, Spurs and Manchester United. It also includes the exciting 1-2 derby triumph against Sheffield Wednesday from 2001. This particular win tasted even sweeter for the Blades, as the Owls had recently knocked Sheffield United out of the League Cup. Another thrilling league fixture was the second leg of the Championship semi-finals in 2003. Sheffield United faced Nottingham Forest in what would become a classic encounter. With the score level at 2-2 on the final whistle, the match went into extra time. Sheffield United scored another two goals, but unfortunately, one was put into the Blades’ own net. With minutes ticking down and the score now at 3-3, Forest returned the favour by also scoring an own goal. Sheffield United won the game 4-3 and the club went through to the next round.
Our Diary Gift also features some equally exciting cup ties. In 2003, Sheffield United beat Liverpool FC 2-1 in the opening leg of the Worthington Cup semi-final, and in 2005, Andy Liddell scored a second half brace to complete a remarkable comeback over Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round.
