Diary Highlights
The 1950s were a period of promotion and subsequent stability for Bristol City FC, following previously disappointing times. After being elevated from the Third Division in the summer of 1954, the club enjoyed another good year during which they cemented their new position. These unique A5 Diaries include the 6-4 win against Blackburn Rovers, which was one of the Robin’s best matches from this season of consolidation, and an incredible 2-1 victory over Liverpool two years later that showed just how comfortable the club had become in the Second Division.
Five stories are also included from the 1970s, such as Bristol City’s wins against Leeds and the mighty Manchester United in 1974 and success against Spurs in 1977. However, the most memorable matches featured in your Football Diary from this era will inevitably be the 1-0 victory against Portsmouth in 1976, which ensured the Robin’s promotion to the top flight for the first time in sixty-five years, and the Anglo-Scottish Cup triumph the following year.
Fast forwarding to the most recent decade, the Bristol City FC Diary captures the events of the 2-0 LDV Vans Trophy Final of 2003 that was played against Carlisle. The Robins had endured a heart-breaking end to a previously good season, as the club had lost the play-off finals after missing out on automatic promotion by the slimmest of margins. This trophy therefore produced a much enjoyed consolation and celebrations returned to Bristol City in 2007 with a final day promotion to the Championship, courtesy of a David Noble brace.
