Watford Personalised Football Calendar

A Fantastic Gift Idea for Fans Of The Hornets!

Watford FC was founded in 1881 and the team has played at the Vicarage Road Stadium since 1922. The Hornets enjoyed two successful eras under the management of Graham Taylor and Sir Elton John was the Chairman of the club on both occasions. Between 1977 and 1983, Watford rose from the Fourth Division to a second place finish in the top flight. Taylor took the Hornets back to the highest division in 1999 during his second spell at the club. Watford FC had previously spent eleven years in the second tier of English football.

Taylor left the club for the final time in 2001. The Hornets went on to endure mixed form that was worsened by financial difficulties behind the scenes. In 2008, Watford appointed Brendan Rogers as the new manager of the club. Rogers was a highly acclaimed young coach who had managed the Chelsea FC reserves under the tutorage of José Mourinho.

Our Personalised Watford Calendars are a terrific gift idea for fans of the Hornets and feature a fascinating selection of match reports on some of the club's best performances since 1960. Each article was written by a journalist who attended the game in person and these A3 Calendars can start from the month of your choice.

Calendar Highlights

The Personalised Watford Calendar kicks off with the 1-0 win against Southampton in the 1931 FA Cup. The Saints were former semi-finalists in the competition and were settled in the Second Division. Watford was still playing the Third Division South at the time and so Southampton had understandably been firm favourites in the contest.

The Hornets continued to overcome the odds in cup competitions and our A3 Calendar features a variety of other terrific ties. In 1970, Watford beat Liverpool 1-0 in the FA Cup to reach the club's first semi-final in major competition. In 1978, the team defeated Manchester United at Old Trafford in the League Cup semi-final, coming from behind to win 2-1. Two years later, the Hornets thrashed Southampton 7-1 in the League Cup second round to overturn a 0-4 loss in the first leg. Finally, Watford beat Portsmouth 3-0 in 2004 to reach the semi-final of the League Cup for the second time.

In addition to domestic cup matches, the Watford Calendar Gift also contains an exciting encounter from the UEFA Cup. In 1983, the Hornets finished their first season in the top flight as runners-up. This guaranteed the club a place in Europe competition and Watford played its first tie against Kaiserslautern. After losing 1-3 to the German side in the opening leg, Watford won the second game 3-0 at home and advanced with a superior aggregate score.

Graham Taylor stepped down as manager of the club in 1987 and Watford was subsequently relegated to the Third Division. When Taylor returned to the club in 1998, he immediately began to improve the position of the Hornets. In 1999, Watford beat Bolton in the play-off final to guarantee a second successive promotion and a return to the top flight. In addition to this match, the Personalised Calendar also features wins against Crystal Palace and Leeds United from the 2006 play-off finals. These gamees resulted in promotion to the Premiership.
