Personalised Football Calendar - Manchester City

Brilliant Gift Idea For Fans Of The Blues!

Manchester City originated in 1880, when a cricket club based at St Marks' Church decided to form a football team. The Blues quickly earned a reputation for being one of the best supported clubs in England. Supporters were particularly enthralled during the 1960s and 1970s, as Man City enjoyed many incredibly successful seasons. Although the fortunes of the Blues would sadly decline, crowd attendances stayed high and fans remained dedicated to their team. Manchester City still boasts one of the largest fanbases for an English football club outside of the so-called 'top four' and City supporters are known for being passionate about their side. Noel Gallagher and Ricky Hatton are two of the Blues' most famous fans and both speak regularly in the press about their love for the club.

Our Personalised Calendars feature twelve terrific match reports from our newspaper archives, covering some of the best Man City games from the past century. Starting from the month of your choice, these A3 Calendars are a great gift idea for any fan of the Blues.

Calendar Highlights

These Personalised Calendars begin with two FA Cup trophies, won in 1934 and 1956 respectively. The final of 1956 - which finished in a 3-1 win against Birmingham City - was made even more famous by the heroics of Man City's goalkeeper, Bert Trautmann. Not only did he make a number of fine saves, Trautmann also completed the match despite breaking his neck during the game.

Former Manchester City captain Joe Mercer became manager of the Blues in 1965. He hired Malcolm Allison as his assistant and the club embarked upon one of the most successful eras in Man City's history. Our A3 Calendar features some of their finest moments in charge, kicking-off with the 0-1 win against Rotherham in 1966, which earned Man City promotion back into the top flight. In 1969, the Blues beat Leicester 1-0 in the FA Cup Final, handing the Foxes their fourth straight final loss in the competition. In comparison, City were flying in cup finals. The next season, Manchester City beat West Bromwich 2-1 in the League Cup final, adding to the European Cup Winner's Cup that they lifted in the same year.

Mercer and then Allison left the Blues and success began to tail off at the end of the seventies. However, many club highlights are covered in our Calendar Gift from the following years. These key moments include the 3-1 Manchester derby win of 2006 and a selection of exciting games that guaranteed league promotion. In 1985, Man City beat Charlton 5-1 in the last game of the season to clinch a place in the First Division. In 1999, the club beat Gillingham in the play-off final to gain entry to the Championship. In the very next season, the Blues would be promoted to the Premiership, following a 1-4 victory against Blackburn Rovers.

Thoughtful Gift My boyfriend is an avid Leicester City Football Club fan and after receiving the personalized calendar, he immediately took it to his office to hang. This is an excellent gift for someone who not only loves their team, but also appreciates the history of the team. 15 January 2013
good product I was pleased with this product although I must say it was much smaller than I thought it would be. The measurements were probably on it but I missed them. This said I thought it was a good item. The newspaper headings were presented very well and I was pleased to say that I remembered some of them. A great present for the old and young alike. 15 January 2013
Wonderful surprise stocking filler! The calendar was for my husband who has been a DCFC fan for many years. As it was totally unexpected, he was thrilled with the gift, and the personalisation of his name on the front was an added bonus. The quality was good, and it was nice to read about the games in years long gone by, many of which he attended. 15 January 2013
Fun Present Great inexpensive idea for a christmas gift for that 'someone who you can't think of a present for'. Fair quality. 15 January 2013
