The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee 2012

It’s only a week and a bit away ‘til us Brits get ready to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee 2012. Everyone here at GoneDigging Towers is excited, so much so, in fact, that we’ve organised a Jubilee-themed fancy dress party at the office. Yep, seriously.

The last time we had a Diamond Jubilee was way back in 1897 to mark the then Queen – Queen Victoria. Let’s face it. Since Queen Elizabeth II came to the throne 60 years ago, on 6th February 1952, Britain has witnessed a mahoosive economic, social and political transformation, right? Despite the ups and the downs, the Queen’s remained up to speed as the head of the world’s most famous Royal Family. Not once has she faltered.

Better Slate Than Never

“We need more products,” someone said.
“Nice ones,” chirped in another.
“Yeah, cool ones. Y’know, sort of funky and modern. Chic and all that.”

The challenge was set. And it was down to our Kerrie to go about getting GoneDigging some trendy new personalised gifts to whack up on our site. Samples flew in (not literally), opinions were cast and the cream of the crop made the cut.

Kindle Surprise

It’s now been nearly two months since I was presented with a Kindle reading device for my birthday. Previously, I hadn’t been sceptical as such, but I wasn’t convinced they offered enough to do away with an ‘old-fashioned’ paperback. I thought they were cool for sure, but the initial £89 outlay seemed steep.

I was wrong. They’re worth every penny.

First off, they look really smart. They’re no iPad, granted, but the simplicity of the design ties in perfectly with the pastime. There’s nothing particularly snazzy about a paperback, so why overcomplicate the Kindle’s design? It hasn’t been and it works.
